Sunapee Planning Board Meeting Update - June 11, 2026

Two significant items were discussed during the recent Planning Board meeting that require resident attention: the Newbury development project and the proposed municipal solar array.

First, a proposed glamping/hotel development in Newbury affects a small portion of Sunapee land. Currently, Sunapee does not have formal standing to comment because the project hasn't been designated as a 'Development of Regional Impact' (DRI). The Board is monitoring Newbury's upcoming decisions closely, as a DRI designation is the key to ensuring Sunapee has a legal voice in how this regional project proceeds.

Second, the Board held a consultation regarding a proposed 250kW solar array at the town's wastewater treatment plant. While the project aims to reduce long-term municipal costs, the Board is not moving forward without more data. They have requested that the applicant provide formal civil engineering plans specifically addressing erosion control on steep slopes, stormwater management, noise from inverters, and visual buffering.
