Transparency matters. While the board moved forward with the parking MOU, the ultimate decision rests with the taxpayers. Make sure you are informed before March. https://meetingwatch.org/nh/newport/school-board/2026-07-13/

Longer-form draft.
At the July 13 Newport School Board meeting, the board moved forward with a land-use arrangement involving Saint Patrick's Church.

While the board authorized the Superintendent to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) regarding parking, it is important for residents to note that the easement component of this agreement is not yet finalized. Because an easement involves long-term land use, it must be put to a vote via a warrant article in March. This means the community, not just the board, will ultimately decide on this arrangement.

Other notable business at the meeting included the acceptance of a $15,000 anonymous donation to support FFA students traveling to a national convention in Indianapolis, and the approval of the sale of an old, non-drivable school bus for $750.

As decisions regarding district property and significant donations are made, we will continue to monitor how these items impact Newport taxpayers and students. https://meetingwatch.org/nh/newport/school-board/2026-07-13/ #MeetingWatch #NewportNH
