Is the New London Bicycle & Pedestrian Advisory Committee losing its way?

During the May 21 meeting, a significant point of tension emerged regarding the committee's direction. While updates on the Pocket Park project were provided—including fundraising and design elements—some members expressed concern that the committee is experiencing 'mission creep.' Specifically, there is a worry that the focus on park beautification is now taking priority over the development of the broader bicycle and pedestrian transit networks that the committee was originally tasked to build.

At the same time, the committee is addressing urgent safety issues. They are currently coordinating with the Public Safety Department and Montascori School to address the rise of high-speed electric vehicles (dirt bikes/motorbikes) on sidewalks and streets, as well as pedestrian hazards caused by new traffic patterns near the school.

As a community, we need to ensure that our advisory boards are focused on the high-impact infrastructure and safety needs of all residents, rather than shifting toward smaller-scale beautification projects. Keep an eye on how the committee balances these competing priorities. https://meetingwatch.org/nh/new-london/bpac/2026-05-21/ #MeetingWatch #NewLondonNH
