X thread
What is the status of our drinking water? At the July 1 Conservation Commission meeting, two major health topics were addressed: PFOA concerns and lead testing in schools. Here is what you need to know. 🧵 #MeetingWatch #LaconiaNH
Regarding PFOA: Following discussions on chemical presence in New Hampshire, the Board expressed interest in testing Laconia’s municipal water supply. Seth Nuttelman has been tasked with following up with DES to determine how this will be handled.
Regarding school safety: Lead testing results in Laconia schools came in well below the 15 ppb action level. However, the Board is still working on management strategies for three specific 'lead loops' identified within the system.
Between PFOA testing and managing lead loops, the Commission is tracking critical water quality issues. We will continue to monitor these developments to ensure resident health and transparency stay a priority. #Laconia #WaterSafety https://meetingwatch.org/nh/laconia/conservation-commission/2026-07-01/
Water quality is a primary concern for every household in Laconia. During the Conservation Commission meeting on July 1, 2026, the Board addressed two critical issues regarding our local water supply: PFOA contamination and lead levels in schools. First, in light of PFOA concerns across New Hampshire, the Commission discussed the potential impact on local wells and expressed a clear interest in testing the municipal water supply. Seth Nuttelman is currently tasked with following up with the Department of Environmental Services (DES) regarding how Laconia will handle PFOA testing and management. Second, regarding our students, the Commission reported that recent lead testing in Laconia schools shows results well below the 15 ppb action level. While this is positive news, the Board is still working on a strategy to manage three identified 'lead loops' within the system to ensure long-term safety. We will continue to track these action items to ensure the city provides timely, evidence-based updates on our community's drinking water safety. https://meetingwatch.org/nh/laconia/conservation-commission/2026-07-01/ #MeetingWatch #LaconiaNH
