Consolidation is often code for school closures or redistricting. The board is currently reviewing draft figures and has tasked the committee with releasing a formal report at the next meeting. This will directly impact property values and student commutes.

The meeting also highlighted growing tensions: 1) Concerns over student privacy (FERPA) as AI is integrated into classrooms; and 2) Unaddressed public warnings about declining enrollment and its impact on the financial health of feeder towns. Stay tuned.

Longer-form draft.
At the May 7 Kearsarge Regional School Board meeting, several high-stakes topics were discussed that will directly impact taxpayers and families in the district.

Most notably, the Facilities B Committee provided an update on critical building needs and potential 'facility consolidation.' While no final decision was made, consolidation typically involves school closures or changes to school boundaries to address costs. The committee is tasked with releasing a formal report at the next meeting, which should be a priority for all residents to attend.

Additionally, the board addressed the integration of AI in classrooms. While the committee presented on the benefits of the technology, they also raised significant concerns regarding student data privacy and potential FERPA violations.

Despite these discussions, some community concerns went unanswered. During public comment, Mag Francis urged the board to examine how declining enrollment in feeder towns will impact long-term financial sustainability during strategic planning. There was no recorded verbal response from the board to this concern. We will continue to monitor how the district addresses these fiscal and structural challenges. https://meetingwatch.org/nh/kearsarge-regional/school-board/2026-05-07/ #MeetingWatch #KearsargeRegionalNH
