HOPKINTON SELECT BOARD — June 24, 2024: Meeting Recap

Most of last Monday's Select Board meeting was routine — consent agenda approvals, a music fund grant, a fair parking lottery, and financial updates. Here are the highlights residents should know about.

TRANSFER STATION FEE CHANGES: New fees take effect August 1, 2024. Windshield stickers will now cost $5.00 and will only be available from the Town Clerk/Tax Collector's office. If you use the Transfer Station, take note of the new process.

HYSA BACKSTOP REQUEST: The Hopkinton Youth Sports Association asked the board to fund a new backstop at the Park Avenue field. The board noted the project is not in the current budget and recommended HYSA pursue grants and other funding sources. This means a volunteer youth sports organization will need to find its own funding for infrastructure at a public field.

PUBLIC COMMENT: Two residents spoke about the green bag program — Carol Hooper (in person) raised questions and suggestions, and Elizabeth Sides (via Zoom) expressed appreciation for Transfer Station staff and how the board has handled the program. No board response to either speaker is documented in the transcript.

GOOD NEWS: The town won a BTLA property tax appeal case. More than half of town employees have opted into a new health insurance option that saves money, effective July 1. Summer recreation programs launched successfully despite excessive heat, and lifeguard Grace received positive feedback from residents.

All votes on substantive matters were unanimous (5-0). Mr. Whitley abstained from approving the June 10 meeting minutes due to having departed that meeting early.

Official minutes are available on the Town of Hopkinton website. We encourage all residents to read them.
