On August 5 the Hopkinton School Board conducted the first read of policy JICJ, which would ban student use of phones, watches, and other communication devices throughout the school day. The policy committee was tasked with preparing implementation steps ahead of the August 27 start date.

During public comment a resident asked how students would receive safety notifications or drill instructions via Parent Square if personal devices are prohibited. The board chair acknowledged the comment with a brief thank-you and offered no further discussion or response.
