Longer-form draft.
At the June 17th Planning Board meeting, a significant debate broke out regarding the Golden Valley Way Holdings proposal for a construction equipment storage facility. While the applicant presented mitigation plans, the Board and the Conservation Commission raised serious red flags.

Specifically, members expressed deep concern over the permanent removal of wetland buffers and the potential for hydrocarbon contamination within our local aquifer protection district. The impact on local wildlife, including trout populations and nesting turtles, was also a major point of contention. The Conservation Commission has already noted that the applicant has not sufficiently demonstrated how they will avoid or minimize these environmental impacts.

Because of these unresolved concerns, the Board voted to postpone the hearing. This gives the applicant time to refine their proposal, but it leaves the community waiting for answers on how our water and habitats will be protected.

The next hearing is scheduled for August 5th at 7:00 PM. We encourage all residents concerned about local water quality and land use to attend and stay informed. https://meetingwatch.org/nh/amherst/planning-board/2026-06-17/ #MeetingWatch #AmherstNH
