The revaluation is 35% complete. For residents who do not allow staff inside for inspections, the city is now using questionnaires and 'estimates' to fill data gaps. These estimates will be used to set property values and, ultimately, your tax assessments.
There is a public meeting scheduled for June 16th, from 5:30 to 8:00 PM at the Peaks Auditorium. If you are concerned about how these estimates will affect your tax bill, you should attend. https://meetingwatch.org/me/bangor/finance-committee/2026-05-05/
Bangor property owners should prepare for upcoming changes to their tax assessments. During the May 5 Finance Committee meeting, city staff provided an update on the ongoing citywide property revaluation being conducted by KRT. With 35% of data collection complete, the city addressed how it handles residents who decline interior/exterior inspections. To prevent data gaps, the city is moving forward with using questionnaires and estimated values for non-responsive properties. Because these figures are used to determine property value, they have a direct impact on your property tax bill. A public meeting regarding the revaluation is scheduled for June 16th, from 5:30 to 8:00 PM at the Peaks Auditorium. This is a critical opportunity for residents to understand the methodology being used to value their homes and businesses. https://meetingwatch.org/me/bangor/finance-committee/2026-05-05/ #MeetingWatch #BangorME
