The changes were reviewed from yellow-highlighted revisions carried over from a prior meeting. Minor edits such as swapping 'expulsion' for 'exclusion' were discussed before unanimous voice vote approval.
Separately, discussion of Policy JKAA on seclusion and restraint was tabled after one member said they had not read the full attorney-drafted version. State regulations still take effect August 17 regardless. https://meetingwatch.org/ma/watertown/school-committee/2026-06-15/
At its June 15 subcommittee meeting, the Watertown School Committee approved updates to the Middle School Handbook that include resolutions on LGBTQ and immigrant student support, new bus fee language, a revised discipline consequences table emphasizing restorative practices, rules on personal electronic devices, and AI language. The changes were forwarded to the full School Committee for the June 22 agenda. The same meeting tabled updates to Policy JKAA on timeout, seclusion, and restraint after one member said they had not read the full redlined document comparing MASC and attorney versions. New state regulations on these practices take effect August 17. Technology policies on digital access and acceptable use were reviewed with no immediate changes; guidelines on screen-time balance are still being developed by staff. https://meetingwatch.org/ma/watertown/school-committee/2026-06-15/ #MeetingWatch #WatertownMA
