Executive Session
The committee is working to rebuild community trust through new strategy reviews and updated task force norms following past harms.
- The Superintendent acknowledged the 'harm' caused to families. In response, the board approved a new ad hoc subcommittee to monitor special education strategy and student services. However, the debate focused heavily on whether to call it a 'task force' or a 'subcommittee.'
- While the subcommittee is a step toward oversight, many residents argued it doesn't replace the need for the full committee to hear directly from families. The board is now considering a 3-hour public listening session for the August meeting. Stay tuned.
- Separately, the district is scrambling to fix a busing 'misstep' that affected 6th graders and students living further away. A special meeting will be held this week to vote on a temporary fix. Transparency in these decisions is critical.
