Economic Development Workshop (SWAT Analysis)
The town is drafting a new economic strategy focused on business reform, transit-oriented development, and potential community college partnerships.
- The most significant off-agenda topic: MBTA station reactivation. While it sounds like a transit win, Board members noted it would reclassify Plymouth, likely triggering mandatory high-density zoning requirements within a half-mile of the station.
- The Board also moved into unlisted territory regarding workforce development, discussing the attraction of satellite higher education campuses and community college partnerships. These are massive long-term shifts in our town's infrastructure and economy.
- When major decisions regarding density, transit, and education are discussed without being clearly listed on the agenda, transparency suffers. We need to ensure the public has notice before the town's character is debated.
