When major decisions—like police leadership—are moved off-agenda, residents lose their ability to participate in the democratic process. We deserve notice and transparency. #BedfordMA #LocalGov https://meetingwatch.org/ma/bedford/select-board/2026-04-28/

Accountability Alert: The Bedford Select Board meeting on April 28, 2026, included several significant decisions that were not reflected on the public agenda, limiting resident participation.

Most notably, the Board voted 4-1 to appoint Andrew Amendola as the new Chief of Police. Because this appointment was not listed on the agenda, residents were not given the opportunity to prepare for or attend the meeting specifically to discuss this critical public safety leadership change. During the discussion, board members even expressed a need for more transparency from the consulting firm involved in the selection process to address community 'angst.'

There were further discrepancies regarding the meeting's agenda. While the 'Development Session' was scheduled to cover a subdivision plan at 145 Davis Road, the Board instead held a public hearing for an Eversource utility request at 329 Springs Road.

When high-impact items like police appointments and development hearings are moved off-agenda, it undermines the community's ability to engage with the decisions that shape our town. We are calling for greater adherence to public notice requirements to ensure all residents can stay informed and involved. https://meetingwatch.org/ma/bedford/select-board/2026-04-28/ #MeetingWatch #BedfordMA
