The decision wasn't without pushback. Community concerns were raised regarding the removal of trees and the potential for the new lot to become an unattractive "sea of asphalt." The project also brings new safety questions regarding golf cart traffic.

Longer-form draft.
During the May 26 Infrastructure & Technology Committee meeting, Aurora officials approved a resolution to authorize an agreement with TAT Enterprises for the construction of an overflow parking lot at Phyllis Park Golf Course. The contract is valued at $86,426.25.

While the project was approved unanimously (5-0), it brought up concerns regarding the environmental and aesthetic impact on the park. Residents expressed worries about the removal of trees and the visual impact of creating a new "sea of asphalt" in a green space. There were also questions regarding the safety of golf carts navigating the new lot.

In response to these concerns, the committee directed staff to investigate adding striped lanes specifically for golf carts and installing proper signage. To mitigate the visual impact of the new pavement, the board also tasked Engineering and Golf Operations with exploring future landscaping and vegetation planting. The project is expected to begin construction in July. https://meetingwatch.org/il/aurora/infrastructure-technology/2026-05-26/ #MeetingWatch #AuroraIL
